Course Description
This advanced Handcuff certification program is designed to acquaint participants with operational use of ASP Tactical Restraints and train them to conduct ASP Basic Certification (ABC) Programs for duty handcuff use.
The ASP handcuff certification program training includes all information and techniques provided in the ABC Program, with the addition of ASP Instructional techniques. Successful completion of the AIC Program certifies that the individual officer has met a competency-based standard of knowledge, has mastered performance skills, and has the ability to instruct ABC Handcuff classes.
Participants will receive an ASP Restraint Instructor Certification upon successful completion.

COURSE PREREQUISITES
Each attendee must be physically fit for duty and be able to perform the practical and tactical applications of these products. This training is only open to active Law Enforcement, Corrections, Armed Government Agency, and relevant military personnel.
Course Overview
ASP Handcuff Instructor Certification emphasizes the principals and techniques of officer safety through extensive drilling and coaching from the some of the world’s best use of force experts. The ASP Restraint Instructor Certification training presents a progression of simple, repeatable and legally-defensible tactics that have real-world application and promote technique over strength.
- Classroom session introducing overall and restraint-specific ASP training principles
- Pyramid Concept – use of proper body mechanics and stance to establish officer advantage and subject disadvantage
- Portation and presentation of disposable, chain, hinge, and rigid restraints
- Safe separation and defenses against sudden assaults during restraint applications
- Application of disposable, chain, hinge, and rigid restraints in various subject positions (standing, kneeling or prone)
- Procedures for safely standing up subjects after prone cuffing, and safely removing restraints
- Static and dynamic drills reinforcing above concepts, under increasing levels of physical stress
- Certification criteria include successful completion of written test, as well as individual proficiency and instructing proficiency
