40mm IMPACT MUNITIONS INSTRUCTOR COURSE
This Train the Trainer course offers instructor-level insights into Less Lethal Impact Munitions, covering selection, preparation, deployment, storage, and legal aspects. Students will acquire the skills to provide in-service training at their agency.

Course Description
This 8-hour course provides state-of-the-art instructor-level training on the topic of Less Lethal Impact Munitions. The student will gain detailed knowledge on the selection, preparation, deployment, storage and legal ramifications of Less Lethal Munitions. In particular, the student will gain specific information in Defense Technology® Less Lethal products, along with the skills necessary to return to their agency and conduct in-service training.
Upon completion of this course, attendees will receive their Impact Munitions Instructor Certification.

Christopher Lussow, Master Instructor for Defense Technology, is a 33-year veteran law enforcement professional with twenty years dedicated to the Emergency Task Force (ETF) as a Tactical Operator (SWAT), Team Leader, and Senior Training Instructor for the six teams in the unit.
COURSE PREREQUISITES
Each attendee must be physically fit for duty and be able to perform the practical and tactical applications of these products. This training is only open to active Law Enforcement, Corrections, Armed Government Agency, and relevant military personnel.
Course Overview
- Course Introduction and Administration
- Overview of course goal, enabling objectives, course schedule, and course performance requirements.
- Cause and Effect
- Identifying less lethal impact munitions, their intended effect, and application.
- Overview of past control methods and the strategic advantage of maintaining distance in violent encounters.
- OODA Loop concept for mental distraction
- Explore how blunt force affects the body and the healing process post-trauma
- Learn three “Zones” for impact munitions
- Less Lethal Options
- Participants will identify the characteristics of LLIMS enabling them to select the best options for the threat presented to them.
- Difference between low energy and high energy munitions
- Differences between less lethal options
- Indirect fire vs direct fire applications of LLIMS
- Deployment, Legal and Training Parameters
- Participants will identify how to establish a sustainable, effective and definable training program for LLIMS.
- Range: Demonstrations and Live Fire
- Participants will be able to identify from marking and shape different LLIMS and their intended application.
- Safe handling
- Difference between single and multiple projectile munitions
- Point of Aim for different munitions
- Loading and deployment
- Testing and Evaluation
- At the end of the course, participants will complete a comprehensive written Post-Test and Course Evaluation.
